Description: These are prepared plastic Petri plates of P668 medium, for germination of orchid seeds. P668 germination medium: this is an all-purpose germination medium that works well for a broad range of epiphytic orchids. Generally a decent medium for tropical terrestrial species when diluted (note: you'll need to add proportionately more agar for this, or purchase our half strength P668 medium, also sold on eBay): paphiopedilums, phragmipediums. Not recommended for temperate terrestrials such as cypripedium (see our other media for that genus). This is the old standby based on Murashige and Skoog salt base with 20 grams of sugar and all the other goodies (inositol, peptone, B vitamins- the whole kitchen sink is in there). Inexpensive and reliable. We have >25 years experience in preparing medium; while we use best practices in producing, storing, and shipping these plates, there is a chance they will get contaminated in shipping. If this is the case, bear with us- we will make it right. Please note: Orchid seed germination is a technical matter. If you are not familiar with the process, I recommend looking up some videos on YouTube, and doing some web searches for more information before buying media.
