Description: FROM MADEIRA WITH LOVE... Vintage, possibly antique hand crafted treen ware plate. Made of a hard dense wood, it measures 12 3/4 inches in diameter and is approximately 1 1/2 inches deep. The plate surface still shows chip marks by the carver. The word for wood in Portuguese is "Madeira". The island was once a dense forest with century old trees. One such forest called Fanal still exists and it is believed some of the trees in Fanal are over 500 years old. To this day, wood is a relatively common material old-timers still use to create household goods. I have inserted a standard size playing card in one photo as a reference for size. MUCH OBLIGED
