Description: Vintage Pre-WWII Old Royal China, England "Swansea" Bone China Demitasse Flat Cup & Saucer Set. Pattern Description: Pink Roses, Yellow & Purple Floral, Blue & Green Leaves, Scalloped, Gold Trim. Discontinued. Unknown dated of production. Made in England. Maker's Marks: Old Royal China was actually just a trade name used by Sampson Smith (Ltd) a manufacturer of earthenware and china at Longton, North Staffordshire, England from c.1846 until 1963. The Old Royal China name seems to have been used starting in ca. 1930. The marks on this cup and saucer, with 'Est. 1846' and the registration number below was used from 1930 until 1941. The printed words 'BONE CHINA' are not part of the initial maker's mark but were added after the first firing. Beginning in 1941, 'Bone China' was integrated into the maker's mark. Measurements: the Cup is 2-1/4" in Height x 2-3/4" Width x 3-3/8" Length (at Handle); the Saucer is 4-3/4" in Width. Condition: Very good condition for their age. The gold trim is shiny and bright. Light shelf wear to the soles. The saucer has a 1/8" x 1/4" shallow chip under the rim. See photos.
