Description: Pair of new aluminum-shaft oars. These are plenty strong. Don't worry about the joint in the middle -- it is very strong too. They come apart in the middle for great portability and compact storage on land, in your vehicle or aboard the boat. Comfortable rubber grips. 7-foot over-all length. Stainless steel spring button locks the joint in the middle. Dimensions of the black part, measured at the maximums, are about 19 x 8 inches (see photos). We had these oars specially made for us as steering oars (like rudders) for our sail kits that we sell for canoes, kayaks and inflatable boats. We are SailboatsToGo, and that is our main business. We have been selling them for 2 years without a single failure, so we thought, why not make them available more widely for rowing? The 1 1/8" diameter shafts will fit through the oarlocks of most inflatable boats, so that's one great potential use. These are SO much better than the flimsy oars that come with most inflatable boats -- both longer and stronger! To put them into a small diameter oarlock, you slip them apart in the middle, poke the joint end of one section through the oarlock and snap the other end onto it. Voila! It's in the oarlock and can't slide away because the rubber grip is probably too large to fit through the oarlock. These oars will work great in any rowboat.
