Description: Item for auction is a 9.93g fragment of NWA 4482 pallasite meteorite, that was found in Algeria in 2006, with >5.81kg of material TKW. *This particular specimen belonged to Ryan Dillon, and is a fairly flat fragment with a window ground and polished to a mirror finish to reveal the internal structure of the pallasite. Olivines in the window displays translucence and sparkle, while all metal phases have weathered into iron hydroxides. There is a large olivine inclusion that protrudes out of the fragment and acts as a mineralogical ‘kick stand’ to hold the piece upright while on display. The meteorite consists of dark, magnetic fragments containing yellowish-green silicate in a dark brown matrix. Petrography consists of large olivine grains (up to 8 mm across) with interstitial, porous, banded iron hydroxides enclosing sparse angular grains of terrestrial quartz, and accessory chromite, schreibersite and fresh metal (both kamacite and taenite). Olivine (Fa12.2-13.0, FeO/MnO = 41.1-42.5). Oxygen Isotopes: (D. Rumble, CIW) analysis of acid-washed handpicked olivine by laser fluorination gave δ18O = 3.65, δ17O = 1.72, Δ17O = -0.198(all in ‰). The meteorite is classified as a Pallasite (main group). This specimen comes with a Big Kahuna Meteorites Certificate of Authenticity. Scale cube is 1cm on each side and not included. Big Kahuna combines shipping, and addresses must be in the English language, to facilitate customs input at US Postal Service.
