As noted on the back of the box: "Brewster & Company was regarded as the premier carriage-manufacturing establishment in American for much of the nineteenth century. Based in New York City, it was operated by three generations of family owners between 1810 and 1925. No other company exceeded Brewster in reputation for quality, elegant design and superior finish in the manufacture of horse-drawn vehicles. Between 1874 and 1892, the company produced sleights. This card is based on a design for a half panel cutter, NO 3806, a graceful, single-seat model, notable for its economy of line, skeletal form, and elegant modern profile. This cutter belongs to a group made in 1884 under the guidance of Brewster's leading designer, Herman Stahmer (1857-1894). Brewster sleighs produced that year won awards and were displayed in international expositions."
