Northwood Glass Company Wheeling, West Virginia circa 1908 This is a very nice purple amethyst carnival glass Victorian style hatpin holder in the Grape and Cable pattern made by the highly regarded Harry C. Northwood Glass Company of Wheeling, West Virginia, circa 1908. Condition. This piece is in very good condition with no flea bites, chips, cracks, or restorations. Even the feet are free of chips. There may be some straw marks (shearing tool marks) on the item from hand manufacturing, a very common outcome of hand-tweaking hot glass in the early 1900s. The iridescence itself is a strong and deep application with a very bright, glossy sheen. The pattern itself is very sharp and well-articulated and shows no sign of wear. {There are the usual internal air bubbles and straw marks (shearing and crimping tool marks) commonly associated with the hand manufacturing and tweaking of old carnival, opalescent, stretch, and EAPG.
