Description: Noritake 4 Bread & Butter Plates Ruby Red Floral Gold 1947-1953 Occupied Japan NORITAKE Exquisite Decorative 4 BREAD & BUTTER / DESSERT PLATES 6 3/8" Diameter, RUBY RED FLORAL w/GOLD, from Noritake Company in Noritake, Japan, Made in OCCUPIED JAPAN circa 1947-1953 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful bread & butter plates were produced in a pattern of floral sprays & scrollwork with gold using a red, tan and yellow, color palette on cream & white. The design looks so classic. There is a light cream wash from the white center to the rim. There are 4 large floral sprays on the flat rim that fall slightly into the depth of the plate. The rims are trimmed in gold. The scrollwork pattern on the plate is particularly beautiful. The yellow scrollwork garland separates the high white center of the plate from the cream above it. CONDITION: While these dessert plates are classified as used, their condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks or wear on the gold or colors. DIMENSIONS: The diameter of the plates is 6 3/8" with a height of 5/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing porcelain china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan with its huge kaolin clay sources. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. The backstamp on this piece is the yellow & blue wreath w/ribbon marked Noritake Made in Occupied Japan. This is the Noritake mark cited as the Double Laurel and Bow which was used in 1945-1953 cited as mark #42.056 in David Spain’s Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More.
