Description: Offered for your consideration is a very nice vintage Case XX CAP 200-10" chef's knife. Case made their kitchen knives in many different configurations over the years. Variations included finger-grooved or straight handles, full tang, dot system dated or not, thick blades, thin blades, etc. This example is a full-tang, finger-grooved knife. The 200-series chef's knives were available with 4, 6, 8, or 10-inch blades. This 10" model is much more difficult to find than the 6" and 8" models. Due to its large size, many saw commercial use and they had a high attrition rate. The knife has seen light to moderate use and it remains in very nice condition with no problems at all. It has not been cleaned or buffed and remains original. The knife was beautifully crafted, offering full measures of the fine quality and performance that built Case's reputation as one of the world's premier cutlery brands. The long, sturdy blade was crisply ground and polished to a deeply mirrored finish. The surfaces remain highly reflective, so please pardon the reflections/flash artifact in the photos. The blade appears to have been sharpened a time or two and it was given sort of a micro-serrated edge. The blade finish is free of any errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions with just a few very fine, hairline abrasions. The blade etch remains fully visible and bold with great contrast against the deeply mirrored finish. The edge is free of any cracks, chips, dings, or damage and remains very nice with just a bit of normal light wear. It remains fairly sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up would have it razor sharp in no time. The tip is intact and original with no breaks or bending, although it is very slightly blunted as shown. The spine is completely free of the dings, dents, marring, and damage so common to large knives. Due to their size/weight and proximity to the user, they are frequently mis-used as impromptu pounding implements for pots, pans, cans, lids, etc. The finger-grooved, laminated hardwood handle remains very nice. It was tightly secured and it's rock-solid. It shows virtually none of the common dishwasher bleaching or fade with just a touch of water exposure from normal sink washing as shown. The wood remains tight to the tang over nearly the entire length and the handle is free of any cracks, chips, gouges, or damage with just some normal light wear. The handle has a warm, silky-smooth feel in the hand and it's free of any stains or discoloration. The knife measures just over 14-3/4" in overall length. This would be an excellent replacement or spare for someone with an old set. Of course, it would also be great as a stand-alone knife for anyone who appreciates premium-quality, American-made cutlery. An excellent vintage knife for the Case collector!
