Nice USA quality 1970's Rawlings Mike Schmidt XFG 15 Baseball glove RH Phillies

Description: Here is a RARE vintage 1975 or 1976 (based on the 5 dots on back of thumb) USA made Mike Schmidt model XFG 15 baseball glove for a RH thrower meaning the glove fits on the left hand. Schmidt was a right-handed thrower. The glove has quality leather and leather piping and welting. The glove has the neat looking and short-lived Tan-Talon leather that was darker and had a nice tough but soft feel. The darker lacing and piping add to the cool look. The quality adult sized glove measures 11.5" long through the pocket. I say the glove is rare as most of the Schmidt gloves you'll find out there are import gloves, not USA made like this quality glove is. The glove was made in the USA with Schmidt's endorsement in 1976. On the back of the thumb is 5 dots, so it could have been made and sold in 1975 (although it's not listed in the catalog) or it has 5 dots as it was made in late 1975 to be sold in spring of 1976. The high-quality glove was the 8th most expensive glove in the 1976 Rawlings catalog and sold for $.00 at that time when the top line HOH gloves sold for $120, so it is a nice quality glove. Prices for the 1976 gloves weren't listed in the 1976 catalog. Stamped on the front is Tan-Talon Leather, "Deep Well Pocket, FastBack, "The Finest in the Field!", Mike Schmidt (facsimile stamped signature), XFG 15, Rawlings and U.S.A. On the back is stamped Edge-U-cated Heel, and a Pat. No. I can't make out and the five dots (for 1976). The FastBack and HolDster stamping above the back finger slot is very hard to see. There is also a bright but worn original Rawlings patch sewn onto the back. There is no owner's ink on the glove. The glove has been fully broken in and has really soft leather. Leather lacing appears original and intact. Smooth soft interior leather with no chafing. Soft leather inside and out. Stamping on the front and back of the glove is light in places and some is hard to read. The leather piping is soft and nice. There is also an original Rawlings patch sewn onto the back that shows wear. Another glove that feels great on your hand. Mike Schmidt was a 3rd baseman who spent his entire 18-year MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1972 to 1989. Schmidt was a 12-time All-Star and a three-time winner of the NL MVP award and also was the MVP of the 1980 World Series as he led the Phillies to the Championship. As a hitter, he compiled 548 home runs and 1,595 RBI’s and led the NL in homers 8 times and in RBI’s four times. As a fielder, Schmidt won the National League Gold Glove Award for 3rd basemen ten times. Schmidt was elected to the MLB Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 and is widely considered to be one of the greatest third basemen in baseball history.I have other gloves and mitts on eBay now as auctions and/or Buy it Now, and I like to combine shipping whenever possible.
