Description: The notes of the September 2, 1775 issue were payable in Spanish milled silver dollars and printed on thick paper by John Holt. This issue discontinued the warning of death to counterfeiters. There are elaborate borders throughout with the front top border depicting a sheaf of wheat and ship. On the reverse there is an emblem depicting a stunning large elephant. The emblem is encircled by the latin motto “PAR VIRBUS VIRTUS” (Virtue is equal to strength). Only 5,000 of these $10 notes were originally printed. Attractive AU example with strong paper and bold ink. Grand signature of on the front.
