Description: New CD Chuck Berry -Winterland Shuffle 1967- from Japan Description Description ★An unreleased live performance by Chuck Berry! Performance at Winterland in 1967. ★A rockin' R&R party with the Steve Miller Band backing you up! It was John Lennon who said, "If you had to give rock and roll another name, it would be Chuck Berry!" and here comes an unreleased live recording of Chuck Berry, the founder of rock and roll, from 1967. Chuck released a string of inventive hits in the late 50s, including Johnny B. Goode, Sweet Little Sixteen, and School Days. In 1962, he was incarcerated for the second time, but the songs he wrote while in prison, Nadine, No Particular Place to Go, and Promised Land, became hits again. However, Chuck's repeated arrests had led him to lose faith in people, so he left Chess Records and moved to Mercury Records. From that time on, Chuck had no more hits, but he took advantage of the rock and roll revival and began to play live shows, especially at Bill Graham's West Coast venues, the Fillmore and Winterland, where he performed with the local band, the Steve Miller Band. From the live circuit of this time, a live performance at the Fillmore was released by Mercury. That was such a fulfilling time. With the British rock whirlwind of the Beatles and the Stones, their reputation was growing again, and I can still picture Chuck's face in top form, smugly saying, "I am rock and roll." Chuck, who is also a bundle of showmanship, generously performs hit songs, especially in a stage configuration where he instantly switches songs like James Brown. In particular, the performance on December 29th featured Jim Peterman's organ, and rare songs such as Booker T & THE MS's-style ``Around and Around'' and Little Walter's slow blues ``Mean Old World''. Chuck was in a good mood from start to finish, and his rapid-fire vocals were outstanding while he freely drove the rock and roll guitar. ``My Diggin''', which reached No. 1 in the UK and the US five years later, was already performed at this time, and there are plenty of highlights to listen to, such as the important part at the end of the stage where the raging ``Johnny B. Goode'' and ``Bye Bye Johnny'' pop out. As an added bonus, three songs have been added from the live performance on December 26th. Chuck Berry was 41 years old at the time and had left Chess Records, devoting himself to live performances. Please enjoy the passionate stage.
