NEW ATLAS CRAFTSMAN 10 & 12" Lathe SLOW FEED 1/2 Speed Gear Bronze Bushed ABS

Description: See KEY TO PHOTO's at bottom. You are buying one 1/2 speed compound gear with bronze bush. Nothing else in the photo's is included. NEW MANUFACTURED ABS Compound Gear. Reduces carriage feed rate in 1/2. QC (Quick Change) Craftsman and Atlas 10" and 12" lathes suffer from too fast of a minimum feed rate for turning at .0042" per revolution. This compound gear allows you to setup the lathe for 1/2 the normal minimum feed speed of .0021". Will allow you to produce much better finishes using power carriage feed on your Quick Change lathe (see example in last photo). I've not test fit it on the Banjo of a change-gear lathe, try at your own risk. Q?: Can I still use my gearbox for threading? A: YES! The gear is primarily intended for turning but I leave mine in all the time. Without the gear, the first 2 lines of the QC Gearbox read: A-IN 4,4.5,5,5.5,5.75,6,6.5,7,7.5A-OUT 8,9,10,11,11.5,12,13,14,15 With the gear in place you simply double the numbers on QC gearbox to get the following TPI's: A-IN 8,9,10,11,11.5,12,13,14,15A-OUT 16,18,20,22,23,24,26,28,30. (Note: Only first 2 rows detailed to keep an already too-long description from being any more difficult to understand) So, you lose the first line of the A-IN row which are pretty rare to turn threads anyway. You still get every other thread pitch on the chart plus a new line double of the D-OUT line. If you need something from 4tpi to 7.5tpi, simply remove the gear and return to stock configuration. Photo of a standard QC panel above. This gear requires one 46 or 48 tooth gear to fit between it and the QC gearbox. You should have 2 48 tooth gears feeding the QC gearbox now. I am providing to you ONLY the special compound gear. I show it running on my 10" lathe as an example of fitment. Made from ABS by additive manufacturing process. Part is bronze Oilite bushed. ABS will not dissolve with standard lubricants or become soft in a hot garage or workshop. In the video I do it with metal parts which are expensive and difficult to obtain. This product reduces your cost of adding this feature to your lathe. You should be able to do it with a complete lathe using the slide gear bolt and one of the 46 tooth gears currently meshing into your QC gearbox. Note, in my photo you see the slide gear.
