Description: Netherlands: Hasselt Cross for Volunteers 1830-1831. The cross was established by royal decree of King William I of the Netherlands and awarded to Dutch soldiers that participated in the Ten Days’ Campaign in Belgium, 2–12 August 1831. The purpose of the campaign was to prevent Belgian succession from the Netherlands. On 8 August 1831, the Dutch defeated the Belgian Army of the Meuse near Hasselt, and the crosses were manufactured from two cannons that were captured at Hasselt. There are two versions of the cross, one for the regular Dutch army, and one for volunteers; this is the less-common volunteer cross. The cross is in near extremely fine condition; on s short length of the original ribbon.
