This is the fictional patch of Castle Rock County Sheriff’s Department which is worn by the character of Sheriff Alan Pangborn (Ed Harris) and Deputy Norris Ridgewick (Ray McKinnon) in the 1993 Stephen King film “Needful Things”. Like many of Stephen King stories, the book and film takes place in the fictional town of “Castle Rock” Maine. King, a native of Durham, Maine had created a trinity of fictional Maine towns as the central settings for many of his stories (with Derry and Jerusalem’s Lot being the other two). Castle Rock first appeared in the 1979 novel of The Dead Zone, however the 1983 film of The Dead Zone depicted the Sheriff (Tom Skerritt) wearing a “Castle County, New Hampshire” Sheriff’s Department patch. The town of Castle Rock also appears in Cujo, The Body (Stand by Me) The Dark Half (along with Sheriff Pangborn). The patch is approximately four inches wide by five inches high and is black with gold lettering (CASTLE ROCK COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEBT) and trim. The center seal consists of a seven pointed gold star with a representation of the town’s logo which is a lighthouse on the shoreline. The patch is brand new and has never been used and can be displayed or worn (for legal purposes!) conventions, costume, etc. This patch is a replica and has not been “screen or production used”.
