I always replace the pressure pad if missing before shipping, BUT if the pressure pad falls off during your first listen, they can be superglued back on the center part or metal piece. If the tape squeaks or slows down to a stop, it may need to be lubricated with silicone spray(the tape itself) Some people are against this, but I find that it really does help, at least on the ones I've tried to fix.
