Description: Stefan Strek: Artist AutobiographyMy artistic journey has been a tapestry woven from diverse threads—passion, adversity, and cultural exploration. Allow me to share more about my life as an artist.1. The Early Years:My name is Stefan Strek, I'm an Art graduate from the University of Oregon and I’ve always been drawn to the world of art. It all began at Lane Community College, where I embarked on my creative education after graduating from high school in 2009.Financial constraints initially kept me at the community college, but this limitation fueled my hunger for knowledge. I became addicted to learning new styles of expression, experimenting with various artistic forms.2. French Adventures:In 2012, I started learning French after a serendipitous encounter with French tourists during a visit to Australia in 2011. The language opened doors to new perspectives and cultural connections.3. Life-Altering Moments:The year 2013 marked a profound shift in my life. A close friend’s tragic suicide shook me to the core. In the midst of grief, I adopted my friend’s cat, Mr. Fluffykins. Together, we found solace in a basement studio apartment—a sanctuary where I rekindled my focus on painting. However, the once-charming alley outside our window transformed into a dangerous space plagued by crime and drug abuse.4. A Solo Journey to France:In 2014, my school organized a summer course in France at the University of Caen. Despite the trip being canceled due to low enrollment, I had already purchased my plane ticket. Undeterred, I decided to embark on this adventure alone.Along the way, I reconnected with friends I’d met in Australia. Our paths converged in cities like Brussels, Nice, and Amsterdam. Museums became my sanctuaries, and I reveled in the cultural foundation of art.I recall a Chinese restaurant tucked within the Paris train station—an unexpected exhibit in itself. These unique moments enriched my appreciation for life’s nuances.5. A Paradigm of View:My artistic philosophy transcends mere aesthetics. It’s a conscious choice to stand against classism while celebrating fine design.I believe that all people deserve the luxury of quality in life—whether through nourishing food, safe housing, vibrant public parks, or enriching museum experiences.6. The Dumpster Outside My Window:In 2014, I moved into a modest one-bedroom apartment on the first floor. Outside my bedroom window stood a dumpster—an unlikely muse. The steady flow of foot traffic, the discarded remnants of lives, and the transient nature of existence all found their way into my art.Through my paintings, I sought to capture the essence of impermanence—the beauty hidden within the mundane. And so, my journey continues—a blend of resilience, creativity, and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of art. Life’s unique qualities, whether found in a Parisian eatery or a dimly lit alley, fuel my passion. This unique painting is a one-of-a-kind piece of contemporary art, featuring a stunning portrait of a Native Person of Color.
