Description: Purchased recently on eBay but never got around to using it, so I'm selling. This unit came from recognized NAD technician DavideK on eBay who has mastered the electronics of the NAD 3020 and its successors and created a product that is superior in every way. Here is Davidek's description of this unit: "I have rewired the Tape Out jacks on this 7220PE to be the variable Preamp Outputs for use with a powered subwoofer, additional power amp, etc. These are the same preamp outputs as on the 7225PE and allow these units to be used in a larger system as a Phono Preamp and/or Preamp/Tuner. I have been testing this unit with Boston HD-5 bookshelf speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer. Simply superb. "The Power Amplifier in this 7220PE has now been repaired TWO times due to blown out transistors. I've lost count of how many PE units I've seen fail this way. I have rebuilt the Power Amp with matching transistors in both channels from NAD spares, and in order to prevent a third failure, I have configured this unit as a 7020e by simply removing the two PE Supply fuses. In the 7020e configuration, the Power Amp voltages match the original 3020 and keep the transistors within their safe area of operation while still delivering the same 20 WPC RMS, but with a lower 35 WPC (2.5 dB) instead of 55 (4.4 dB) WPC IHF Dynamic Headroom. Keep in mind these are conservative NAD_watt ratings. I will send the fuses at the buyer's request. "I have replaced all of the electrolytic caps in the Power Supply, Amplifier and Tuner Audio sections. The audio caps have been upgraded to ELNA CE-BP and nichicon Fine Gold Audio as well as Vishay Film in the Tone Control. The new power supply caps are nichicon and Rubycon. "I have installed a new power switch, and have also added the extra collector wires for the output transistors used in the 7225PE to maximize output current." Cosmetically, this 7220PE is in excellent condition except for a small ding on the front panel upper left corner and a few light scratches. See photos. Davidek's listing of the upgrades may be found in the last two photos. The 7220PE is a "3020-like" receiver in that it contains the same all-discrete transistor phono preamp, control amp, and power amp design as the original 3020. It is also rather elegant in that it has two independent power transformers and power supplies, one for the analog amplifiers and the other for the digital tuners. It is literally an integrated amp with a separate tuner on top."
