Description: Rare beautiful set of faience mortar and wooden pestle, with hand painted images of flowers and bird. Mortar is signed "Vieux Moustiers" (Old Moustiers). Faience from Moustiers is known for its high quality and rich decorative patterns. This type of earthenware is produced in the city of Mouster-sur-Saône, which is located in the province of Provence in the south of France. The traditions of making earthenware in Mousteria date back to the 17th century. The products are unique in style and execution technique, as well as the use of bright colors and various motifs. Typical patterns of Mousterian faience include images of birds, flowers, scenes from nature and mythological characters. The condition is excellent, with with slight traces of age and a couple of microchips on mortar, some traces of age and usage on pestle. The items were purchased on French auction.
