Description: This 1967 German import 2LP box set from Telefunken (SAWT 9501/02-A) was issued on the 400th anniversary of the birth of Claudio Monteverdi, with a performance of his work Vespers of the Blessed Virgin 1610 (Vespro della Beata Vergine). Featured vocalists include Rohtraud Hansmann (Soprano), Irmgard Jacobeit (Soprano), Nigel Rogers (Tenor), Bert van t'Hoff (Tenor), Max von Egmont (Baritone) and Jacques Villisech (Bass). They are accompanied by soloists of the Vienna Boys' Choir, the Monteverdi-Choir of Hamburg, and Concentus Musicus of Vienna (playing original instruments), conducted by Jürgen Jürgens. The set includes a large (album-sized) 16-page booklet with extensive album notes, illustrations and photos in English by Wolfgang Osthoff and Konrad Ruhland, plus a full libretto in Latin and English. Also included is a photocopy of the album's review in the November, 1967 issue of Gramophone magazine. The outer box is in good condition with minimal wear (mostly some loosening of the spine and faded lettering on its outer edge) and no separated corners. (Its back labeling is in German, but the inside contents are in English with a Latin/English libretto.) It shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear. NOTES:Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection. Please be sure you know the Shipping charge to your address before bidding.
