Kindest regards, McKenzie & Smooch (DLReidy Enterprises, Inc.)Helpful Information about Waterford Crystal Waterford crystal remains a very collectible brand and being able to distinguish it is a valuable skill in the crystal business. Waterford Crystal is the brand name of beautiful crystal glassware and other crystal items. Its roots go back to Waterford, Ireland, beginning in the year 1793. Today, Waterford crystal is still produced, and the company is a part of WWRD Holdings Ltd. (bought in 2015 by Fiskars Corp.) that also produces products by Wedgwood and Royal Doulton. Knowing How to Determine the Quality of Waterford Crystal Is a cord or line in crystal a flaw? No. A line or cord is not considered a flaw. This almost invisible difference in the density of the crystal occurs during the fusing of molten crystal. Although visible when it reflects light, the cord disappears when a goblet or vase is filled with water. Does a seed or bubble in crystal constitute a flaw? Tiny bubbles the size of a pinpoint sometimes form in the fusing or melting process and do not affect the quality of the piece. Such slight variations are natural results of handcrafting. How to Identify Waterford Crystal Identify Waterford crystal by holding the item up the light and use a magnifying glass to locate an acid stamp that says “Waterford." Alternatively, if the item was made after 2000, look for the Waterford stamp in the shape of a seahorse. Caring for Your Waterford Crystal Both crystal and glass must be tenderly cared for and require special directions for cleaning. Always wash the glasses individually in warm water, use a delicate dish soap and have a soft cloth available to wash the glasses. Once clean, rinse them thoroughly under warm water and set them on a clean soft kitchen towel right side up to air dry.
