Description: Miguel Pineda Enamel on Bronze Plaque, Mayan, Stela 4, Machaquila, Guatemala Large Miguel Pineda enamel on bronze plaque measures approximately 19" x 13" and the enameled piece is approximately 12" x 5". The label on the back of the board indicates the image is of Stela 4, from Machaquila, Guatemala from the late classic period. The bronze work is based on a drawing by Ian Graham, Tulane University. The image features a figure holding a manikin sceptre (objects held by Maya rulers to signify their power and authority). I've included an image of the drawing I found on-line. This was purchased in Mexico City in 1974 by a family friend and is labeled on the back as such. She was a world traveler and collector of rare beautiful items. The piece is in very good condition. Bronze / enamel piece has no damage. There is a mark on the wood plaque on the front near the bronze (see detail photo). Mar is only visible at a specific angle. Back of plaque has minor general wear. Museum quality piece, rare find.
