Description: This beautiful mid century modern atomic barkcloth (rough textured cotton) appears to have been used as a valance in a commercial building, hotel or stately home. It is 5 1/3 yards long, with tailored, tapered points on both ends which measure 45.5" and 46" inches respectively. (Yardage measurement does not include tapered points.) The background is beige or tan, with blue, green, maroon, pink, green, and gold floral pattern. Printed on the selvedge, "Saison Happily Married Fabrics Vat Printed Preshrunk." This heavy fabric is suitable for pillows, drapery or upholstery - or maybe even a theater set. It is mid century from the 1940s - 1950s. Condition is very good, with just some snagging / tearing on one of the tapered points. See pics. Otherwise excellent with no stains or other tears. Saison Happily Married fabric group was introduced in 1947 by Charles Bloom, Inc of New York City. The line was advertised as vat-dyed and pre-shrunk. These iconic vintage fabrics are now represented in textile museum collections around the country.
