Shafer became an artist showcasing her intaglio etchings, watercolors, and painted objects in art shows up and down the east coast, and as recently as October of 2015, exhibited at the Jewish Community Center in West Hartford with a group of longtime art club friends. Her work is part of the permanent collection at the New Britain Museum of American Art. She was also an art teacher at the West Hartford Art League and a Corporator at the Hartford Art School. Maryellen founded the annual Frenchman's Creek Art Show. Plate block measures 8” x 6” and 13” x 11 1/2” with the margins. Frame measures 14 1/4” x 12 5/8”.
