Description: Mexico to USA Cover 40 cent Airmail cancelled 1937 Merida, Yucatan to Sheaffer I am going through some of my late grandfather's possessions, and he has some interesting postage stamps and envelopes. Grandpa lived in Ft. Madison, Iowa, where Sheaffer Pen Company was and still is headquartered. At the time, fine pens like theirs were often sold in jewelry stores, so Grandpa has envelopes from lots of jewelers, bookstores and stationers around the world that must have once held payments or orders. This posted envelope was slit at the top and right edge with a letter opener to remove contents. Beautiful envelope is from Pluma y Lapiz printery and paper store in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico to W.A. Sheaffer Pen Company in Fort Madison, Iowa. 40 cent stamp is clear and in nice condition. It looks like there was once once more stamp on the envelope, but I think 40 centavos was enough postage, so perhaps the wrong one was initially applied. Crease in right corner of envelope. Postmarked 22 April 1937 Servicio Aereo, Merida, Yuc. There is also a strip of Correo Aereo/ Via Air Mail Tape across the bottom left. I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
