Description: Mexico, Charles IV, Silver 8 Reales 1801 Mo FT (Mexico City Mint), KM #109; FC-89a; Yonaka-M8-101b; Cal-972. Nice coin in high grade, pleasant light gray even silver natural toning. Boldly struck and pleasing to the eye, this handsome example displays lovely rich sunset hued patina. The fields are relatively smooth with minimal signs of handling consistent for the grade. Close inspection reveals evidence of a past cleaning or rather light brushing, now subdued and attractive. Despite its shortcomings an attractive example of the type with nice eye appeal. Not many people may know,.. but these coins were used as US Legal Tenders until 1857! Compare the current market prices with US Gobrecht or Liberty Seated Dollars of that time period!
