Description: This beautiful platter, hand crafted of Mississippi Delta clay in the Merigold, Mississippi studio is substantial and has a coup shape which keeps food from spilling off the edges if you do serve with this; yet, it also displays beautifully on a heavy metal easel (not included, but easily purchased at Hobby Lobby and the like). I hate to let this one go, but retirement and health dictate it is time. This large platter is beautiful displayed, but will hold a large number of appetizers or desserts and was designed for function. I have only seen one similar piece to this. The shape is superb, and you can tell it was crafted by someone who was an expert potter. We purchased this 1st quality prior to Lee McCarty's passing; I would say a few years prior, but just a few. I have collected McCarty for quite some time, but really don't have anyone to pass these great pieces on to. Hopefully, you can put to use for your family, and enjoy for the upcoming holidays! This is the old matte nutmeg glaze - a white background with cocoa brown sprinkles - a few cocoa touches and thick white drip glaze over the edges. Love the lighter color! A nice greenish black iconic Mississippi River mark flows down the top front. The McCartys signature is carved into the back for further authenticity. The platter measures 16 INCHES in diameter all around, so this is a very nicely shaped round piece. There are no repairs, no scratches, no chips. This is a beautiful first quality piece from a very persnickety collector and was made by someone who took a lot of care. It is level and nicely shaped. Your platter will be VERY CAREFULLY packaged from a seller who specializes in glass and pottery and has never had breakage. No wiggles or wobbles in your heavy duty double boxes with abundant padding. We pay the extra insurance above the basic $100 for you. This is a beauty, an investment piece of pottery.
