Mayten Tree was Introduced to California in San Francisco in 1878 and was Available in Santa Barbara before 1900. It's Growth Rate and Ultimate Size can Vary Greatly Depending on Water Availability. Locally, at Maturity it Usually Develops a Rounded Crown with a Height and Spread of 20 to 30 Feet, and can Also Make a Spectacular Bonsai Specimen. Growing Conditions:Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun with midday shade. Shelter from cold, drying winds. Tends to produce suckers, some far-reaching. Avoid disturbing roots. Zones 8b-11Mayten Germination:1) Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours.2) For best results, cold stratify for 60 days by placing seeds in a zip lock bag filled with moist vermiculite, and place inside of the fridge for 60 days.
