Else clean and tight. 438pp. Profusely illustrated with 18 diagrams within text, 92 b&w photos and 3 folding maps. The author led the Australasian expedition to explore Antarctica in 1911. Following an accident, himself and one other man attempted to return to base, having to eat some of their dogs on the way. Eventually Mawson was forced to travel the final 100 miles alone and arrived after the ship had left. He and six others spent another winter exploring and finally arrived home in December 1913. His work helped to more acc urately fix Magnetic South.
