Mashmakhan The Triangle - Bob Hahn Produced Master Tapes - 1969

Description: An exceptional find. The original demo tapes that MashMahkan (then The Triangle) recorded with producer Bob Hahn in March 1969 that got them a recording contract with Columbia Records. In total there are 3 - 10.5 inch Sony metal reels with 1/2” tape. Recording/Playback speed is 15 1/2 ips. Hand written end labels and notes written on the inside reel flaps. The tapes appear to be in very good condition with no odd or vinegar smells, no shredding or sticky tape syndrome. The tape boxes have Stereo Sound Studio Montreal labels which was Bob Hahn’s studio. Tape boxes are in excellent condition with some marks etc but nothing major. A very interesting piece of Canadian rock history. Mashmahkan’s hit single As The Years Go By was a big hit in Canada and Japan and a moderate hit in the U.S. A short bio on the group. Members Pierre Sénécal, Brian Edwards, Jim Nuchter and Rayburn Blake first met in 1960 in Montreal, Quebec. Their drummer did not show up one night for a gig, so Jerry Mercer was brought in and ended up joining the band. Edwards quit shortly thereafter, but the other three continued to perform on the local scene under names like the Phantoms, Ray Blake's Combo, and the Dominoes. By 1965 the group called themselves The Triangle, and backed up local R&B singer Trevor Payne. They worked with Payne for four years until being discovered by record producer Bob Hahn, who recorded demos for the group in March 1969 and helped them get signed with Columbia Records in Toronto. Edwards rejoined the band and they changed their name to Mashmakhan, after a variety of hashish sold by a local dealer, to appeal to a modern audience.
