Mariano Rodriguez was a self-taught Cuban painter and illustrator who worked in various forms of art, including ceramics and costume and set design. He is recognized as one of the great artists of the second wave of Cuban art. His work embodies the colors of his culture, the light of his tropical surroundings, and his Latin American and particularly Mexican muralist influences. According to the poet Mario Benetti, "his painting is exuberant, joyful, dynamic, and essential." Many of his works are housed in important museums and private collections in Europe and the United States. The prices reached in recent auctions are recorded on art platforms such as Artprice. It is known that he used to draw on any paper that came into his hands, and this work is a testament to that habit. The piece is a serigraphy of one of Mariano's most recognized series, "Los Gallos". The work has a magnificent print and faithfully captures the colorful attributes the artist attributed to these creole roosters.
