Description: Up for sale is a SEALED, NEVER OPENED "Mardi Gras New Orleans Card Game", from 1982, which is described on the packaging as "the most unique card game in the world". (NOTE: The term "most unique" is, admittedly, very poor grammar.) This particular deck was issued in 1988. It was intended specifically for attendees at the Republican National Convention which was held at the Louisiana Superdome, in New Orleans, in August of that year. (See photos # 2 & 3 of this listing.) The website of "boardgamegeeks" describes this card game as: "a non-partnership precise-bid trick-taking game with a few twists." [This website also has a fairly detailed description of the card deck and playing rules.] According to the website of the Louisiana Secretary of State, Decka, Inc. was registered as a corporation in October, 1982. The corporation's mailing address 711 N. Broad St, New Orleans 70119. Interestingly, this was also the address of Ruth's Chris Steak House. Even more interestingly, proprietor Ruth Fertel was listed as an officer (Secretary) of Decka, Inc. Thus, it appears that the card game and the restaurant were intimately linked from the very start! I would highly recommend, to those interested, reading about Ruth Fertel, who succeeded, against many odds. in becoming a pioneer woman business owner and entrepreneur in New Orleans. There are several articles available online. These articles also explain the story behind her steak house's unusual name. The 1988 Republican National Convention nominated the ticket of George H. W. Bush (then sitting Vice President) and Dan Quayle (then Senator from Indiana). The convention was held during the middle of hurricane season. A couple of weeks after it ended, Hurricane Florence made landfall in southeastern Louisiana with 130 mph winds, causing extensive damage. PLEASE NOTE: This deck of cards is entirely new and unused in sealed shrink wrap. On the back of the shrink wrap is a paper sticker giving information about Ruth's Chris Steak House, and mentioning the Republican convention. There are some pen marks at the upper right corner of this sticker. I should also mention that when you open the card game and remove the shrink wrap, you will also be removing the sticker shown in photos # 2 & 3. Sold as is.
