The 1.2mm seamed brass shell combined with the 5.5" shell depth bring crispness and articulation with ease. For this drum, Mapex has implemented four vents for an even dispersion of air which sit amongst 20 offset lugs. Mapex's Cylinder-Drive Strainer affords effortless action as well as doubling as a secondary sensitivty dial for your snare wires making sure that you get that sweet spot. This brass snare is easy on the eyes and mellow on the ears with its warm and open tone. But it will bite when played hard. Manufacturers Description Compeletely redesigned, the Mapex Black Panther Snare Drum Line has undergone some serious upgrades. Borrowing from the renegade Design Lab series snare drums, there has been some trickle down features that are now found on these new drums, like the Design Lab Air Flow Venting, and the Soniclear Snare Beds to provide enhanced sensitivity. All bearing edges have the Soniclear edge for easier tuning and head seating, and the the Sonic Saver Hoops are standard on all drums. The Metallion is the standard.
