LUXEMBOURG - UN FRANC - WW One Period Banknote 1914 - Circulated RARE - LOOK!!!

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 LUXEMBURG/LUXEMBOURG - RARE EMERGENCY BANKNOTE ISSUE – Etat du Grand-Duche de Luxembourg Issue - Scarce 1 Franc denomination - dated 28 Novembre1914 - a sought after type, in circulated, Fine condition. Luxemburg during WW 1 was occupied by German forces from August 1914 until the end of the war on 11 November 1918. The occupation was full and complete. Catalogue Reference:-Pick#21. The note is printed in Black on light shades of a Blue and Multicoloured underprint on the face and the reverse. All the text on the face is in French and on the reverse in German. The note is printed on White paper which is watermarked with Bar Crosses (Balkenkreuzen) throughout. The note's design is used on both sides, which are identical, except for the text and the signatories on the note. The text on the face is as follows - ' État du Grand-duché de Luxembourg Bon de Caisse au Porteur. Loi de 28 Novembre 1914 1 Un Franc 1 soit Quatre-Vingts Pfennig ', all this means roughly - 'State of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Bearer Cash Voucher. Law of November 28, 1914. 1 One Franc 1 or Eighty Pfennig'. On the reverse is the same text but in German. At the top right corner on the French sise is the Serial number as 171011 in Red. Below this are two signatories. I believe at the bottom centre, is Leon Kauffman as Le Ministre d’État. Président du Gouvernement ( Minister of State, President of the Government) at the bottom right the signature of Le Délègue du Gouvernement. On the reverse there are also two signatories. I believe at the bottom centre, is Ernest Hamelius as the representative of Die General-Staatskasse (The General Treasury) and the signature of Die Kontrolle at the bottom left. Finally on the face at the very bottom is a single line of text in French as follows - 'Ceux qui auront contrefait ou falsifie des Bons de Caisse seront punis des travaux forces de 15 a 20 ans' - all this means roughly - 'Those who have counterfeited or falsified these banknotes will be punished with forced labour for 15 to 20 years'. On the reverse the same statement is at the bottom in German. Also on the reverse at the centre is a cartouche in Orange and light Blue with a large figure '1' within, printed over this in Black, is 'EIN FRANK' Un Franc denomination. Size:- 94 x 61mm. This old small sized Emergency issue banknote has seen circulation. There are central folds and other creases. Its edges and corners are mostly straight and sharp, though there is a tiny nic at the top and bottom of the vertical fold. The note also has a tiny area of semi transparent Pink discolouration at the top right, which overlaps with the Serial number. However, all in all this is a highly collectible, sought after note type, which grades on the PMG Grading scale F 15. This means - 'This note may look like a Very Fine note, but upon closer examination it is found to have too many folds or too much circulation to warrant a Very Fine grade.. Low but sensible Buy It Now price of just £64.50, a fair price with a Make Offer option, compared to many other sellers on eBay for such a note, from a seldom seen issue. See my other banknotes and occasional coins in my eBay shop, where most are at BUY IT NOW prices with a Make Offer option. HISTORICAL NOTES:- Billets de Nécessite and other Emergency notes were issued in Europe - predominantly in France, during and after World War One from about 1914 and up to the early 1920's, they were used in towns and regions in place of coins which during wartime became scarce as the metal was needed for industry, their use by and large became redundant by the mid 1920's as the economies began to recover following the privations of Wartime. On most of them there was an issue date with details of the date and time they could be re exchanged for regular currency issued by the Banque de France or other Central Bank. There are hundreds of different types, they were issued mainly in denominations of 50c, 1 Franc and 2 Francs. They are interesting historic documents. The same issues were often printed on any paper that was to hand, sometimes of poor quality, even lined paper from exercise books was used on occasion. PINHOLES:- Most French notes of the period inevitably had pinholes because of the quirky way that shops used to deal with banknotes, when a customer paid for an item with notes, a receipt was always given and a copy kept by the retailer to which he stapled or pinned the banknote. The practise had generally died out in France by the 1980's, but it still goes on in some shops in rural areas to this day!! I ALWAYS COMBINE POSTAGE COSTS ON MULTIPLE WINS _ PLEASE DO NOT PAY FOR ITEMS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE MY COMBINED POSTAGE INVOICE IF YOU ARE BIDDING ON MORE THAN ONE ITEM! IMPORTANT - All my items are sent to the UK from my current location in Italy by Certificated Airmail for safety reasons, and INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, please note that any item or group of items which totals more than £30 will have to be sent by insured delivery for the safety and security of your item - there can be I am afraid no exceptions to this. Please note that as a matter of course I do not now post to some countries where the postal system seems to be unreliable. Therefore, those buyers from RUSSIA, ISRAEL, CHINA, INDIA, BANGLADESH, PAKISTAN, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, VIETNAM, SAUDI ARABIA, MEXICO & CHILE who wish to bid on my notes will have to contact me first and be aware that any items won will be sent by chargeable INSURED TRACKABLE postage. This is because at least 30% of items sent to buyers in these locations in the last few years for some reason do not arrive. The cost of insurance will add about £10 to the cost of the item. I always combine postage and shipping on more than one item won. If you think my postage and shipping charges are unreasonable then please contact me before you make a bid. For full details of shipping and postage costs to UK and other European destinations and all other addresses Worldwide, please refer to the Payment Instructions below:- PAYMENT - Please pay through the eBay system using your preferred payment method. In exceptional circumstances I may accept £, US$, € at current rates or a personal cheques drawn in £ on a UK registered Bank, please contact me first if you wish to pay this way. Shipping/handling: UK and Europe:- £6.30 for registered/insured (Necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £20). Rest of World:- £10.90 for registered mail (seller’s risk, necessary for all items or groups of items with a value exceeding £20). Multiple wins/items are batched and sent at no extra cost, unless weight is significantly higher, above 20 grams. NB. Please do not pay until you receive my invoice, especially if you have won more than one item, as I always combine the postage packing and shipping costs, so that you save on postage. I do of course appreciate it if you pay quickly but I am sure you wouldn't want to be paying too much for postage. If you do overpay, I will usually refund you through the eBay system, before I send your item or items. A note about feedback I do not wait for you to leave Feedback for me like some sellers do, so Transactions will receive positive feedback soon after payment is made. I strive to earn 100% perfect 'five-star' scores from you, my customer. The star scores are very important because eBay uses them to determine the visibility of my items in search results. So, before you leave your Feedback for me, if anything about the transaction did not meet your expectations, please let me know and at least give me the chance to put things right, before leaving negative Feedback or contacting eBay. Always contact me first before contacting eBay or opening a case, I will always help, I will block bidders who open cases without contacting me first! PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS ARE NOW USUALLY MAILED FROM MY CURRENT LOCATION IN ITALY, posted the same day that payment is received or the next working day after payment, if made at the weekend. When I am in the UK, I will post from there. Some deliveries may take longer than normal to arrive, this is not my fault, merely the aftermath of the WELL KNOWN problems since March 2020, experienced within the International Postal System! Although now, even though the International Postal system is almost back to normal again, there still can be the odd delay to some destinations. __________________________________________________________________________
