Description: The plant that I ship is about 1-2 feet tall. The Madagascar Palm, scientifically known as Pachypodium lamerei, is a distinctive and fascinating succulent tree native to the arid regions of southern Madagascar. Despite its common name, it is not actually a true palm but belongs to the Apocynaceae family. The Madagascar Palm is known for its striking appearance, with a thick, bottle-shaped trunk that can reach heights of up to 30 feet (9 meters) or more in its natural habitat. The trunk is typically grayish or silver in color, adorned with sharp thorns or spines. These thorns act as a defense mechanism against browsing animals and help the plant conserve water. At the top of the trunk, the Madagascar Palm produces a rosette of long, slender, and leathery leaves. The leaves are arranged in a spiral pattern and can be up to 12 inches (30 centimeters) in length. During the dry season, the tree may shed its leaves to reduce water loss. In the late spring or early summer, the Madagascar Palm produces clusters of beautiful, fragrant, white or cream-colored flowers at the top of the plant. These flowers are trumpet-shaped and attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Following pollination, the tree may produce elongated seed pods that contain numerous small, brown seeds. Cultivated worldwide as an ornamental plant, the Madagascar Palm is prized for its unique form and its ability to thrive in arid and desert-like conditions. It is a moderate to fast-growing tree that requires well-drained soil and full sun exposure. However, it is important to note that the plant's sap can be toxic, so caution should be exercised when handling it. The Pachypodium lamerei requires well-draining soil with little organic matter (i.e., peat). During the summer months when the succulent has its leaves, water regularly (as long as it is planted in a well-draining soil). If indoors, consistently keep this species on the drier side as it is rot prone. For outdoor cultivation during the winter months, keep dry. Repot your friend every 3 years. As this species has some serious thorns, make sure to move slowly and methodically. Wear a pair of gloves and gently wrap the plant's trunk (towards the bottom), several times with a large towel. This will allow for the required, careful and precise maneuvering of your plant into its new home. Fertilizer that I include as an option is an excellent choice for professional growers or nurseries if you grow plant in a pot. I personally use it for all my plants. It has polymer coating to allow slow release during 8-9 months evenly. You don't have to worry about repotting the plant for about 1 year or worry about burning plant with your regular over the counter fertilizer. You need about 3-4oz per 3 gal pot or 4-5oz per 5 gal pot.GUARANTEED ANALYSIS Total Nitrogen (N)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 15%8.0% Ammoniacal Nitrogen7.0% Nitrate NitrogenAvailable Phosphate (P2O5)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9%Soluble Potash (K2O)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12%Magnesium (Mg)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.3%0.8% Water Soluble Magnesium (Mg)Sulfur (S)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5.9%5.93% Combined Sulfur (S)Boron (B). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.02%Copper (Cu). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.05%0.05% Water Soluble Copper (Cu)Iron (Fe)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.46%0.08% Water Soluble Iron (Fe)0.005% Chelated Iron (Fe)Manganese (Mn)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.06%0.05% Water Soluble Manganese (Mn)Molybdenum (Mo)**. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.02%Zinc (Zn). . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 0.05%0.017% Water Soluble Zinc (Zn)Derived from: Polymer-Coated: Ammonium Nitrate,Ammonium Phosphate, Potassium Sulfate, MagnesiumSulfate, Sodium Borate, Iron Phosphate, Iron EDTA,Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Molybdate, Zinc Sulfate;Copper Sulfate, Zinc Oxide Pictures show adult plant and its possible applications.The pot is not included.
