Description: Description: This beautifully executed etching is approx.. 8” high x 6” wide (plate), 11 1/8" x 8 3/8" (paper), 15" x 12" (laid on board) and archival re-matted to 16” high x 12” wide for a standard frame. The piece depicts St Mark’s Clock Tower, Venice, Italy. It is pencil signed “Charles J. Watson” in the lower left margin and also “Charles J. Watson, 1908” in the lower left of the plate. The print was "laid" or "mounted" on a backing board. (This was typical of the time due to the thickness of the prints and for galleries to display the prints.) It is in good vintage condition. Notes: Charles J Watson, R.E. (1846-1927) was a painter and etcher well known for his architectural and landscape subjects. He exhibited at the important London Galleries from 1872. Watson was a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, as well as chief founder and first president of the Norwich Art Circle.
