The designer of the decoration was most talented and the overall quality of the design is quite professional. The rim has jagged scalloping and embossing that is accented by 3 strips of gold that is solid on the rim and feathers into stippling. The sprays are composed of pink roses, white daisies with raised highlighting & yellow centers and purple violets with bluish green leaves & dark stems. The center medallion varies from plate to plate and has usually a single flower. See the photos where we give you a full frontal of each plate and several close-ups. CONDITION: While this decorative set of 2 luncheon plates is classified as used, its condition is superb. There is no defects or damage. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. Overall, the paint & gold is as applied. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The luncheon plates have a diameter of 8 5/8" and a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The red mark on this set is the overglaze decorating mark #8 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used 1891-1900. The green mark on this set is the underglaze manufacturer's mark #4 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used 1896-1900.
