Description: Beautifully transparent gem Libyan Desert Glass! You are bidding on an 98.00 gram (490 ct) premium color and transparency specimen of Libyan Desert Glass AAA+++ loaded with cristobalite, a mineral uniquely formed in a massively high energy impact event, generating very high temperature. The cristobalite here is a metastable spherulite you see in the pictures that looks like small, suspended whitish balls. As I composed this listing I started really wanting to collect this specimen for myself, as I have never seen so much cristobalite in one of this nice size and clarity, making it a really killer deal. For those than love the energy in crystalline stones, metastable is a fancy scientific word saying that the energy of the impact is locked inside those li'l spheres and has been there for 29 million years. Think about that! It is better than something captured in amber - the overall glass lattice that froze the cristobalite into metastability by impact heating above 2,700°, was quenched as it cooled relatively fast afterwards. All that happened in a near flash, before the spherulites of cristobalite could break down into more familiar quartz-like minerals in glass. (Yes, I am a geek at heart.) 98.00 g = 490 carats = 3.46 ounces What you see in the photos is what you get.Other LDG individual pieces and lots are available . I am confident whatever you want I've got it. Collecting wholesale for 15 years has its benefits. It is time to sell a few kilos to finance another trip... rinse, repeat ... It is what I do. Libyan Desert Glass is from the Sahara in a region between Western Egypt and Libya. It has been treasured for thousands of years, from paleolithic times when humans made tools such as scrapers with it, to Pharaonic times when it was used to make the centerpiece of King Tutankhamun's breastplate in the form of a scarab, and has caught on today as an impact glass collectible, a.k.a., tektite, or as a mystical stone with metaphysical properties similar to moldavites. Scientists have theorized in the mainstream peer-reviewed literature that Libyan Desert glass was created approximately 29 million years ago by a comet or loosely compacted asteroid that broke up, scalding and fusing the sand when the kinetic energy of air-burst impacted the earth. That's because they find all the chemical signatures of impact but no crater. The jury is still out on whether there might be remnants of a crater near the impact glass's strewnfield, which would likely be obscured by millions of years of erosion. The new owner of this valuable piece will be rewarded by the beauty of what has been called the ancient sun captured in cosmic glass. I have also turned on numerous others to the beauty and mystery of LDGs over the years - including some fine sculptors who've made amazing creations using it as a design element or base, as well as many enthusiastic metaphysical practitioners who feel the energy from these beautiful stones. Many enjoy LDG as an inspiring or spiritual talisman to carry around! ABOUT ME: I am a meteorite and impact glass hunter-gatherer! Been doing this for decades. You will get a label included with a statement of authenticity. I have hunted, boots on the ground, for meteorites and impact material all over the world for the last 20 years, and have given the scientific name to a meteorite that fell in Texas I discovered with my team, as well as finding a very rare meteorite that recently fell in my state of Florida for which I am also listed in the scientific literature. I collected Libyan Desert Glass and traded it personally and with my team in Tucson for nearly 20 years. CAUTION: Most of the LDG being shipped out of China and other Asian countries is phony. Blatant. Don't fall for it. So many of the LDG pictures on eBay have been clearly color enhanced - don't fall for that either! DISCOUNTS & PROMOS (may be combined): Free Priority shipping with this piece and anything else shipped together (This is automatic!)
