This heirloom-quality Chess features a 3.0" King with a 1.5" diameter base. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods. The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with gold embossed English Leather base pads under the Kings, luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a beautiful finish. The Collector Series Luxury Chess set has been crafted to replicate the design and proportions of the original Staunton pattern Chessmen, registered by Nathaniel Cooke in March of 1849 and first manufactured by Jaques of London in September 1849. The distinctive feature of this set is the the open-mitered Bishop and original Knight design, which was originally sculpted by the Maestro, Frank A. Camaratta, Jr. With it's downturned head, flowing mane and aggressive facial expression. this is one of the finest Knights ever to grace the 64 square battlefield. As with all of our Chess sets, the Imperial Collector Series exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close! The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.. The Chess Set comes with a personalized Certificate of Authenticity and an original manufacturer's plaque indicating the production number, with an adhesive backing that would allow it to be affixed to the underside of a Chess box. THE CHESSBOARD Crafted in Spain, the House of Staunton Standard Traditional Tiger Ebony / Maple wooden Chessboard features Tiger Ebony (dark) and Maple (light) squares with a Tiger Ebony frame. This Chessboard is 0.5" thick, has a satin finish and a beautiful molded edge. 1.875" Squares have a board dimension of 18.75" x 18.75" THE CHESSBOX The Premium Chess Box is lined in green billiard cloth, divided and features brass quadrant hinges and a lock & key.
