Description: This is a fairly large, complete, ACTUAL BALLOT printed for the 1916 presidential election specifically for use in the town of Berne, New York in Albany County. This one was obviously not cast or used and is 19.75" x 21.5". There are the heads of the presidential tickets for six different political parties at top and the names of those particular party's presidential electors all listed below in columns. Maybe a relative of yours is on this! Charles E. Hughes with Charles W. Fairbanks head both the Republican and the American Party's line-up. Woodrow Wilson with Thomas R. Marshall are for the Democrats; J. Frank Hanly with Ira Landrith are for the Prohibition Party; Allan L. Benson with George B. Kirkpatrick are for the Socialist Party and Arthur E. Reimer with Caleb Harrison are for the Social Labor Party. Knowing all these may win you Trivial Pursuit someday. If you wonder what all those symbols mean at the very top above each column, those are for the voters who couldn't read! An uneducated voter was able to recognize their favorite party's logo - perhaps from meetings or rallies - the GOP eagle; Democrat star; Socialist torch - and then mark the ballot underneath for the correct candidate. This is like an American history lesson in itself. Of note is the fact that 1916 was the only year since 1900 in which Eugene Debs didn't head the Socialist Party's ticket, which he did again in 1920, campaigning from federal prison in Atlanta. So how much Allan Benson socialist campaign material do you have in your collection? This in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. You can see there's wear across the middle where a stack of these had been folded over for storage for 100 years. But no fold lines, water damage, discoloration or major tears. Remember, this stuff's called ephemera, folks, because it was made to be used and then pitched. So, we're just happy to have interesting things like this to add to our collection in ANY nice condition. It still would look impressive framed with some archival tape at the edges against the matting to snug it up some. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence. We'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases which we do by issuing a refund for any overpayment. Shipping on this will be $8.50 rolled in a tube with tracking. 8795
