Photograph is unframed. ________________________________________________ Leopold Hugo (1866-1933) Leopold Hugo was born on December 24, 1866 in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland). He immigrated to the United States in 1889, settling first in Texas before arriving in La Jolla in 1907, when he opened a dry goods store. By 1911, he was listed in the La Jolla telephone directory as a photographer. Hugo remained in La Jolla until 1917, when he moved to Pasadena, California and later to Pacific Grove, California and then Santa Cruz, California. Hugo and his wife then returned to La Jolla in 1929 and opened a photography studio. While his early works were straight photographs of his subjects, his later work reflected the influence of the Pictorialists. Leopold Hugo died September 7, 1933 in Belton Texas.
