Attractive lot of five antiquarian 1/2 leather bindings, smooth spines, gilt title lettering & spine decorations, marbled covers & end papers, deckled edges, top edges gilt. Set is physically old and shows some signs of handling and time. Limited edition: #744 of 1,000. Note- set is not complete. These are 5 volumes (of six?), lacking volume IV, which is very easy to miss or overlook with the very small roman numerals used on the busy decorated gilt spines. This lot is being offered primarily as inexpensive leather binding shelf filler for a bookcase. Bindings gently age worn but still appealing, small chip at head of vol. I spine and base of vol. II, some other small nick or split faults at spine ends, leather and joints slightly rubbed but still supple, set remains overall very attractive as an object. Nice looking despite any age flaws. Text block paper is gently age toned as typical, internally book remains mostly clean, tight and sound. A set which has been taken care of but does not look like new. Still attractive on the shelf. Book displays a pleasing and unique age patina and is in rather nice antiquarian condition, any age flaws seem easy to overlook or forgive. Please review photos for more detailed attempt to present this set as it survives.
