No cue maker would ever work on a shaft without making sure it is protected first. Do not learn how to use your new lathe product on an expensive shaft. Practice and learn on an inexpensive shaft before you try working on a $200-$300 cue or shaft. Do Not over tighten the rollers on your shaft or butt. If you do you can damage the shaft or butt.
