Description: The Canadian National Exposition (the "Ex")is an annual fair held in Toronto; it began in 1878 as an agricultural fair, but it now offers a wide variety of entertainment and events, midway rides, a working farm, parades, sports, international food and shopping. For auction is a post card folio, termed a "Miniature View Album", from the Ex; the folio is undated, but from scenes on the cards, my research indicates the folio is from the late 1940s (the fair did not operate during World War II but resumed in 1947). The folio contains nine post cards. These cards are rather unique for there are actually two views: one which can be removed for mailing, and a smaller one which remains in the folio (see scans 2, 3 and 4 for examples). Views are the following: (a) Motor Show & Princes Boulevard; (b) Entrance, National Horse Show; (c) Band Shell; (d) Prince's Gate; (e) Government Building; (f) Gooderham Fountain and Manufacturers Building; (g) Business Equipment Building; (h) Horticulture Building; (i) Gooderham Fountain and Manufactures Building at night; and (j) Grandstand. The folio measures appx 8 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches. The post cards (which can be removed) measure appx 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches. The views that remain following removal of a post card measure appx 3 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches. This item is in excellent condition and appears to have had little if any use. All post cards are attached (none have been removed), and the binding is secure. There is no writing or markings, no spills or smears, no rips or tears. A great period item for fair collectors.
