It was at this time as a young child while tending goats that Manuel Jimenez Ramirez began carving and selling his creations. Then eventually this new art form caught on in neighboring towns. Manuel Jimenez Ramirez, Mexican carver, sculptor and painter is credited as the originator of the Oaxacan version of alebrijes, animal creatures carved in wood and painted in strong contrasting colors.This is a Large Delfino Gutierrez Oaxaca Mexican Carved & Painted Wood Folk Art Alebrije, mythical fantasy animal creature. Measuring 27" long x 19" high. There are a few scuff marks. No other chips, cracks or repairs.
