KING GEORGE V (GREAT BRITAIN) - DOCUMENT SIGNED CIRCA 1892 - HFSID 23604 GEORGE V. Partly Printed DS: "George", 1p, 13x8. No place, circa 1892. "Conduct Sheet" for Herbt Hitchcock who, according to this page, was discharged from "H.M.S. Camperdown to H.M.S. Victory I on 30 May 1892", from "H.M.S. Victory to H.M.S. Melampus on 28 June 1892" and from "H.M.S. Melampus to H.M.S. Victory on 2 Sept 1892". FOUR CAPTAINS HAVE WRITTEN ABOUT THE CONDUCT OF HITCHCOCK ON THIS PAGE. The third was Queen Victoria's grandson (the second son of future King Edward VII) who has written that Hitchcock served under him from "29 June" to "2 Sept". The future King George V rated Hitchcock's character as very good "v.g." and his Ability in/Rating as "Good." On January 14, 1892, his older brother and future heir to the throne, Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, died at Sandringham at the age of 28. Prince Albert had been bethrothed to Princess Mary of Teck, whom George later married on July 6, 1893. Among the children of George and Mary were Kings Edward VIII and George VI. Prince Albert Victor was one of the suspects in the Jack the Ripper murders. Since his death, no one has been given the title of Duke of Clarence, a title once held by future King William IV and the brother of Kings Edward IV and Richard III.
