Written by Daniel Warren Johnson with pencils by Juan Gedeon, DC's Jurassic League, a six-issue mini series first published in 2022, is a campy, charming and oddball twist on DC's preeminent superhero squad. Wonders never cease, of course, and Jurassic League recently gave DC fans even more to ponder as news came in late February 2024 that James Gunn's DC Studios now has the project in development as forthcoming animated film. Moreover, Brian Lynch, the writer of Minions and Secret Life of Pets, has been tapped to write to script with Gunn serving as the film's producer. Though still a few years out, Jurassic League will likely see a new title (to eliminate any confusion with Universal's Jurassic Park franchise) and, just as likely, will fall outside of Gunn's new cinematic DC Universe as an "Elseworlds" project rather than be placed within the same continuity as next year's live-action Superman (2025). Then again, the world of Gunn's cinematic DC Universe will be, upon introduction, a movie universe very different from either the former DCEU or the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this new, unrevealed cinematic world, the notion that dinosaurs with super powers existed during some distant era in earth's past might very well be nothing more than part of the accepted historical record, and that'd be as crazy as it is cool.
