Description: This is the June 15, 1977 issue of Thoroughbred Record, with the cover story being about the Hagyard Veterinary practice beginning and their tradition, spanning 1 + century and 4 generations. There is an extensive article on how Dr. Edward Thomas Hagyard began his work and became the patriarch of a dynasty of veterinarians, as well as the founder of the firm known worldwide (in 1977) as Hagyard, Davidson, and McGee, and how they remained at the forefront in the practice of equine veterinary medicine. There is also an interesting article about Ancient Title, then a 7 year old gelding, who had just won the Bel Air Handicap and was the richest California-bred ever at that point. There is a full color pullout of Prove Out, who ran two of the greatest distance races of all time: the Woodward at 1 1/2 miles, defeating Secretariat by 4 1/2 lengths as well as Cougar II; and the Jockey Club Gold Cup at 2 miles, defeating both Our Native and Riva Ridge. The magazine is in good condition, with no label and no tears, creases or writing, with various wear showing on the front and back covers. Please see all photos for best idea of condition and contents. Thanks for your interest.
