Description: Per Wikipedia, Thick as a Brick is the fifth studio album by the British rock band Jethro Tull, released on 3 March 1972. The album contains one continuous piece of music, split over two sides of an LP record, and is intended as a parody of the concept album genre. The original packaging, designed as a 12-page newspaper, claims the album to be a musical adaptation of an epic poem by fictional eight-year-old genius Gerald Bostock, though the lyrics were actually written by the band's frontman, Ian Anderson. The album was recorded in late 1971, featuring music composed by Anderson and arranged with the contribution of all band members. The album was the band's first to include drummer Barrie "Barriemore" Barlow, replacing the band's previous drummer Clive Bunker. Thick as a Brick is considered by critics to be the first Jethro Tull release to entirely consist of progressive rock music. It received mixed reviews upon its release, but was a commercial success and topped various charts in 1972. Today it is regarded as a classic of progressive rock, and has received several accolades. The album up for bid is a May 1972 release on the Reprise Records label and was manufactured at Columbia Records' Terre Haute pressing facility and is a first pressing. As listed above, the album consists of one continuous piece of music on each side. The total run time of the recording is 43+ minutes. The cover is in VG+ condition with very little wear along the edges and corners. The covers retain their gloss and there are no markings or signs of disc wear on the covers. The interior covers are also in VG+ condition. The paper inner sleeve is not original, but is intact and consistent with Warner Bros/Reprise recordings. The recording has been cleaned, tested and recorded using Audacity. All tracks have been played through and all tracks are free of skipping. There is very little background noise on Side 1 of the record. However, I detected several 4-5 "clicks" on Side 2. They are random in nature and do not impact on the music. The sound is clear and crisp. The record surfaces show signs of mild disc wear and the labels have a prior owner's initials on one side (see photos). The recording would be graded VG based on Goldmine standards. I always clean, listen and test every record I list on EBAY. I do this in insure that I can give as accurate a description for each album I list. I also try to follow the Goldmine standards on grading records. I do this as a service to the buyer, as well as, to maintain my own reputation. If you have any question or concern regarding an item, feel free to contact me.
