The tip (chū-kissaki) is slightly extended. The forging (kitae) displays a fine ko-itame hada, mixed with itame hada and mokume hada, with a dense layer of ji-nie, producing a bright and clear utsuri, indicative of high-quality steel. The hamon is a vibrant gunome pattern, interspersed with rounded gunome, chōji-midare, and angular shapes. The blade features yubashiri and tobiyaki, with abundant ashi and yō. The edge is lined with fine ko-nie, with frequent activity such as kinsuji and sunagashi, making the nioiguchi bright and clear. The bōshi undulates and sweeps back with a sharp return. The tang (nakago) is unaltered (ubu), ending in a kurijiri shape with takanoha file marks and one mekugi-ana (peg hole). The habaki is made of plain copper with a single layer. Kanesugi was a smith active during the late Muromachi period around the Tenbun era. This sword is an excellent example of refined craftsmanship, with a bright and vivid ji-hada, featuring prominent utsuri. The hamon combines rounded gunome, chōji, and angular elements, accented by yubashiri and tobiyaki, creating a dazzling, dynamic pattern. With abundant ashi, yō, and fine ko-nie, alongside lively kinsuji and sunagashi, the nioiguchi shines brightly. Although predating Kanefusa, this piece exhibits a Kanefusa-style hamon, making it an outstanding work of its kind.
